FDA Regulations Presentation: Kathleen Hoke Dachille, director of the Center for Tobacco Regulation, presented to the group on the new FDA regulations.
Our spring meeting was very successful! We started with campus coalition updates. Next, Onna Van Orden, a center specialist at MDQuit, gave a presentation on college daily and occasional smoking. Kathleen Dachille followed with some very informative slides discussing legislative updates as well as the increasing dangers of hookah smoking. Onna Van Orden, Center Specialist at MDQuit and graduate student in Human Services Psychology at UMBC, presented research on daily and occasional smoking among college students. This presentation includes some preliminary findings from her Master's project.
Hookah Bars Presentation: "Confronting the Emerging Threat of Hookah Bars"
Kathleen Dachille, director of the Center for Tobacco Regulation, presented to the group on the dangers of hookahs bars.
Legislative Updates: "Tobacco and the Maryland General Assembly 2009: Abbreviated Version"
Kathleen Dachille also updated the group on results from the 2009 Maryland General Assembly with respect to tobacco laws.

Our first meeting of the year was a big success! Students heard Victoria Almquist from the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids speak about marketing in the tobacco industry. Students also had time to brainstorm activities for their own campus communities.
